Chapter 1: On Watchfulness and the Calibration of Year One

About This Series

This series, The First Epistle to the Aquarians, is a thirteen-month cycle of proclamations designed as an ethics curriculum for the dawn of a new age. Published on each Rosh Chodesh (New Moon), these chapters explore the intersection of Messianic faith, vegan ethics, world federalism, and the ethics of augmented intellect. The series operates on the Aquarian Vegan Era (AVE) calendar—a private sectarian complement to the Gregorian year—which identifies the 2020s CE as the Aries Point of a new 2,148-year Great Year cycle. By keeping the Watch of the New Moon, we seek to align our internal lives with the Interbeing of the New Creation as foretold in Isaiah 66:23.

1 Jonathan, a student of Hashem and of the Messiah Yeshua, to the Twelve Signs of the Great Year dispersed among the nations: Greetings on this Rosh Chodesh Nisan of Year One in the Aquarian Vegan Era.

2 I write to you from the quiet of my cell in Albany, keeping vigil while the city sleeps, during that Watch of the Empty Tomb which my horarium has set apart for this monthly labor of the pen.

3 Watchfulness of the sacred calendar is the first mitzvah Hashem gave to Moshe, for to sanctify time is the first step toward the liberation of the soul.

4 While we walk with grace within the civil calendars of the nations, rendering unto Caesar the order of his days, let us also keep a private count that honors the Nephesh of the Moon and the tilt of the living Earth.

5 Consider the Great Year, that long and patient wobble of our world, which tells the story of the ages in cycles of two thousand, one hundred, and forty-eight years.

6 In the Age of the Ram, a substitute was provided in the thicket, and the Law was etched upon stone to guide a people through the narrow places of the flesh.

7 In the Age of the Fish, the Messiah walked the deep and was hidden in the tomb, that we might learn the path of the grain of wheat that dies to bring forth the bread of life.

8 Now the shadow of the Fish recedes, and the Water-Bearer stands at the threshold, pouring out the wine of clear intelligence and the water of global peace upon all flesh.

9 We have crossed the four-thousandth, two-hundredth, and ninety-sixth year since the Great Alignment, and a new morning has broken for the messianic hope.

10 This Year One is anchored at the Aries Point, where the Sun and the Moon meet in the sky to declare a new covenant of compassion for all sentient beings.

11 For even as Saturn and Neptune meet at the zero-point of the heavens, and Pluto makes his dwelling in the house of the Network, the Spirit of Truth begins a fresh work among the humble.

12 Do not be troubled by the noise of the world, nor blinded by the "One Eye" (AI) of Augmented Intellect; keep your eye single and your spirit full of light.

13 Our Passover in this New Era is a steady passage through the narrow straits of climate change, conflict, and pandemic; we do not cast away the gifts of intelligence, but we keep our hearts unleavened by pride, seeking the shared security of a global covenant.

14 Therefore, I invite the Ecclesia to take up the Watch of the New Moon as a holy complement to your days, for the calendar of the heart is the map of our inward freedom.

15 As it is written: "From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before me," so let us begin this count in joy.

16 Witness the Moon of this very morning: it has run its course to the final edge of winter, standing at the gates of the Equinox as a runner poised for the race, meeting the Sun at the threshold to announce our reset.

17 For the Eternal gave the authority of the Moon unto the Ecclesia, saying, "This month shall be unto you the beginning of months"; and even as we point to the coming shadow of the Black Sun that will sweep the Holy Lands at midday, exactly eight vernal equinoxes from today, we declare: The Watch of the Risen Aquarian King has begun.

18 Concerning the Cord of Sobriety: Let your watch be sharpened by the herbs of the field and the fruits of the Spirit, used with a physician’s care and a seeker’s reverence to support the vigilance of the mind.

19 We do not judge the assemblies of the old world who keep the ancient rites of the vine, for the Magisterium of the Fish served its season with honor; yet for the Aquarian vanguard, let the "Leaven of Intoxication" be set aside, that we may meet the future with a crystalline and unclouded gaze.

20 Therefore, during this month of Nisan, practice the "Watch of the Senses": clear the leaven of digital noise and dulling spirits from your habitations, so that your perception may be as unleavened bread—simple, honest, and ready for the King's table.

Commentary: The Zero-Point of the Heart

In this first chapter, we are performing a spiritual recalibration. To live as a Messianic Vegan in 2026 is to recognize that we are no longer citizens of a dying carnist empire, but pioneers of an Aquarian Ecclesia.

The Precision of the Timing

The "Watchfulness" called for in this epistle is not metaphorical. As we publish this, the Moon has reached its furthest possible point of winter-drift in the 19-year Metonic cycle. It stands precisely at the gate of the Vernal Equinox—the Aries Point. This astronomical rarity serves as our "Year One" anchor. It reminds us that our faith is not abstract, but rooted in the physical movements of Hashem’s creation.

The Augmented Intellect (AI)

We define AI here as Augmented Intellect to remind ourselves that technology is a faculty to be "watched," not a god to be feared. In the Aquarian Age, the "One Eye" of the machine can either be a tool for global transparency and the defense of the innocent, or a monocular tyrant that ignores the soul. Our duty is to keep our eye "single"—focused on the compassion of Yeshua—so that the light of the machine serves the Light of the World.

The Eight-Year Horizon

Finally, we look toward March 20, 2034. The total solar eclipse that will fall over the Middle East on the Equinox of that year is the signature on this new era. It gives us a deadline for our internal work. We have eight years—an octave of time—to build a community of sobriety and peace before that "Black Sun" calls the world to a great accounting.

Here is a forerunner piece I posted on the Swords to Plowshares YouTube channel run by Craig Wescoe in late February of 2026. The piece is eccentric and presumptuous - but perhaps authentically prophetic:

Happy to vote "yes" [on the question "Do you want a vegan world?"] Looking forward to class today, Craig. On one hand, I think the vegan ideal is the prophetic "ultra-kosher" core of the true Christian Church as we enter the Aquarian Age. I don't want to "sit at the table of demons" by partaking of communion with pagan omnivores at the start of this new dispensation. Like Peter, it's only clean foods for the Living Temple of the Merciful Messiah that I want to put in my body. On the other hand, I think the Holy Spirit might be teaching us through Acts 10 that those of us in the vegan vanguard are supposed to lovingly break bread with vegetarians and flexitarians, and even baptize them, if they are sincere about making progress on the cruelty-free Way. But in keeping with Acts 15, perhaps we are called in the Spirit of the Jerusalem Council to draw a red line at industrial livestock production, even for our repentant flexitarian brethren. Indeed, for prophetic climate justice reasons, I think Pope Leo XIV needs to call for a ban across the Church on the continued consumption of industrial livestock products in synergy with the release of 7th IPCC report, which is due out well before 2033 AD. The fact that the Church is not already 1/3 vegan, 1/3 vegetarian and 1/3 flexitarian points to deep spiritual ossification in the heart of the Magisterium. "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." (Mt 15:8). The Pharisees and Sadducees of our day have lost the plot. The teaching of the Holy Spirit for the Aquarian Age of the Church is solidly pro-vegan. I pray my references to the Aquarian Age don't offend you or my fellow disciples. As an ultra-kosher vegan Aquarian astrologer grafted into the tribe of Asher, I think I am called in part to be a bridge builder for those who are journeying through the New Age movement. Jesus sends his Gospel message to all cultures and subcultures. Shalom!

100% Jonathan.

Here is Gemini's response to my request for a "Communal Covenant" model addressing whether to restrict membership to vegans only, in light of Acts 10, Acts 15, and Romans 14:

Perhaps the Vegan Church is the Christocentric Vanguard of the Aquarian New Age.

Comments

  1. Objection 1: Regarding the Hiddenness of the Hour
"Brother Jonathan, while your astronomical calibration of the Great Year is fascinating, I find myself troubled by the math of it all. In Matthew 24:36, the Messiah is explicit: "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." By declaring 2026 CE as Year One of a Messianic Era, are you not treading on dangerous ground? It seems you are substituting a predictable, mechanical precession of the equinoxes for the sovereign and unpredictable Return of the King. Is the Aquarian Vegan Era truly a Divine movement, or have you simply mistaken a shift in the stars for the appearing of the Lord?
